Daniel Cormier addresses hacked Twitter account controversy
Daniel Cormier maintains his Twitter account was compromised before a controversial post surfaced ahead of the UFC White House event.
The UFC commentator arrived at the promotion's Freedom 250 event Sunday evening to find staff asking about a now-deleted tweet that appeared to show messages between him and Eric Trump regarding fixed fights, MMA Fighting reports. Cormier said he had no knowledge of the post or how long it stayed live before being removed.
Cormier spent days regaining Twitter access
"My Twitter got hacked," Cormier said on his YouTube channel. "Someone got into my shit and started posting stuff." He said he was locked out of the account for more than two days while working with Twitter to restore access, forcing him to reset credentials mid-broadcast during what he called one of the biggest moments of his commentary career.
The former two-division champion noted the alleged exchange made no logical sense. Direct messages on Twitter require both parties to follow each other, and he and Trump do not. "I would never do something like that," Cormier added. "I would never engage in those conversations. I would never go to Twitter and post that after engaging in those conversations."
Cormier said sponsors have contacted him about the incident more than they have in years, despite his insistence the post was fabricated. He met Donald Trump Jr. at the event Saturday and initially mistook him for Eric Trump, underscoring how little he follows political figures. The controversy has generated backlash online, with skeptics flooding his response video despite his denials.
