McGregor Reacts To Sinead O’Connor's Death, Bisping Slams Jake Paul
Conor McGregor has reacted to the passing of Irish singer Sinead O’Connor.
According to reports, O’Connor passed away at the age of 56 on July 29th, 2023. The reasons for the cause of death have not been revealed, but O’Connor has left an impression in both music and beyond.
The singer released 10 albums including the mega hit ‘Nothing Compares 2 U.’ As a result, O’Connor became the ‘artist of the year’ by Rolling Stone magazine in 1991.
Outside of music, O’Connor’s personal life had been blighted by mental health issues, specifically bipolar. But one person whom she did leave a positive impression on was McGregor.
O’Connor sang during McGregor’s fight with Chad Mendes all the way back in 2015. And given that McGregor secured a remarkable TKO win in the second round, it was an all-round memorable night.
And prior to the fight actually happening, the ‘Notorious’ was looking forward to seeing the Irish star perform on a global stage.
McGregor’s Comments
"I love Sinead O’Connor, I’m a big fan of Sinead, she is a passionate woman, her voice is – she has a beautiful voice and it’s eerily symbolic of war. So for as long as my career I’ve been coming out to Sinead and now we get to do it live, so it’s going to be a phenomenal occasion," McGregor
With that being said, McGregor had nothing but positive words to say for O’Connor.
"The world has lost an artist with the voice of an Angel. Ireland has lost an iconic voice and one of our absolute finest, by a long shot. And I have lost a friend. Sinead’s music will live on and continue to inspire! Rest In Peace, Sinead you are home with your son I am sure," McGregor
O’Connor may no longer be here, but the singer’s impact will continue through the music that she created.
And for McGregor, his legacy in the cage will also continue provided that he goes out on a high since he has not been in the Octagon since 2021. But for now, the thoughts will be with O’Connor.
Bisping Slams Paul
From one MMA star to another, Michael Bisping has hit out at Jake Paul for not boxing him following a reported offer.
Paul is currently in line to face Nate Diaz on August 5th, 2023, in a crossover fight where the latter will make his boxing debut.
A ten-rounder at a 185-lb catchweight will go ahead, as well as the possibility of a future PFL fight if Paul follows through with that.
However, before the Diaz fight was made, it appeared that Paul was targeting Bisping after the Tommy Fury rematch failed to materialize.
This was on the grounds that the offer did not reflect Bisping’s value. But since a follow up offer didn’t arrive, Bisping was not best pleased.
"The sooner we shut up and stop talking about the little coward Jake Paul, the better it is. Jake Paul sent a contract to my management asking me to box him a while ago.
"I said ‘yeah sure’ if you up the offer a little bit. And then guess what, we never heard back from him because he’s a little p*ssy and he’s picking off smaller guys and non-boxers," Bisping said
This naturally begs the question: why did the fight not get made? Well, outside of an alternative explanation, it may have been due to the following reasons.
Bisping, unlike Diaz, may not be the biggest name out there. Diaz is still very much an MMA fighter, despite not having fought since 2022 when he beat Tony Ferguson.
In contrast, Bisping retired from MMA in 2018 as he took part in commentating about the sport. In addition, given his recent activity, the former MMA fighter may not be as relevant as he once used to be.
Not only that, but Diaz is American unlike the Brit, Bisping. Therefore, having Diaz will draw in bigger numbers, especially with the American market.
Regardless of what the case may be for this, Bisping did criticize Paul’s last performance.
Bisping On Paul’s Last Fight
"The one time he fought a boxer, Tommy Fury, he lost. Is he going after the rematch? No. He fights Nate Diaz who is almost 40 and is not a boxer. He can box a little bit, but is a smaller guy that used to fight at 155 pounds," Bisping
The fight may not have happened now, but based on the outcome of the Diaz fight coming up, it could happen later down the line.
And if Bisping continues to make some background noise about Paul, then who knows what could happen. But for now, all eyes will be on Paul vs. Diaz.
With that being said, Bisping may have to wait his turn if he wants a crack at the ‘Problem Child.’
