McGregor Says Final Fight Will Outdraw Canelo
Conor McGregor says his next UFC fight will be his last and predicts it will outdraw every Canelo Alvarez event in history.
The Irish fighter is still recovering from the knee injury that ended his UFC 329 return after just 69 seconds in July. No timetable has been set for his comeback, but McGregor posted on social media that when it happens, the event will shatter his own box office records, per MMA Mania.
"How many views did the Canelo fight get?" McGregor wrote. "How many in attendance? Gate? Man I outdo ALL of these people in sales. Majorly. EVERY SINGLE ONE. With ease. Maybe even combined. I don't even be trying."
McGregor's Box Office Claims and UFC Future
He went on to note that his last fight drew massive numbers despite airing opposite a World Cup semifinal. McGregor said he plans to actually promote his next bout and see what kind of sales he can generate before walking away. UFC 329 reportedly pulled over $25 million in live gate revenue despite the abrupt finish against Max Holloway.
Whether the 38-year-old fighter actually retires remains unclear. McGregor has one fight remaining on his UFC contract and was reportedly paid around $30 million for the July stoppage, though he could command far more on the open market. The retirement angle may be as much a negotiating tactic with the promotion as it is a sales pitch to fans.
McGregor has not competed in five full years before the brief UFC 329 appearance, and no return date has been announced as he continues knee rehabilitation.
