McCracken On Joshua's Fury Fight Negotiations

Robert McCracken says Anthony Joshua's potential fight with Tyson Fury will likely happen and that critics should stay out of the negotiations.

McCracken, who trained Joshua as an amateur and during his world title run, told Sky Sports exclusively that the decision to proceed with the heavyweight clash is up to the fighters alone. "I don't think it's anybody else's business whether they should fight or not — I think they both proved themselves," he said.

What Joshua Needs After Fury's Frustration

Fury signed terms for the bout and his promoter Frank Warren told media this week they are waiting for Joshua, while Eddie Hearn has confirmed talks have reopened for a Wembley Stadium date. Fury vented on social media about the delays, calling Joshua a coward, but McCracken says the former unified champion has always been willing to fight anyone provided the deal made sense.

McCracken suggested Fury enters as favourite based on his dominant stoppage of Mariusz Wach this summer, while Joshua survived two knockdowns before stopping Kristian Prenga. "Joshua is coming off the back of not a great performance, but obviously he got the knockout and that is all that really matters," McCracken said. "He'll be looking to prove people wrong."

The longtime coach says the prolonged timeline has only heightened interest. "One thing I'd say is everyone's talking about it — it puts boxing on the map and it's great for boxing," he told Sky Sports. No date has been set for the fight, but both camps have indicated the bout could land at Wembley later this year.
