Mayweather-Pacquiao rematch loses Sphere venue after Eagles booking
The announced rematch between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao has lost its Las Vegas Sphere venue after The Eagles claimed the September 19 date for their residency.
The fight, which Netflix revealed in February, has faced mounting complications since Mayweather floated the idea that it would be an exhibition rather than a sanctioned professional bout. Boxing Scene first reported last week that The Sphere was no longer in play, and the rock band's announcement confirmed the venue conflict.
Status of Mayweather-Pacquiao pro bout remains unclear
Team Pacquiao has maintained the fight would proceed despite Mayweather's reported breach of contract over the exhibition language. ESPN reached out to representatives for both fighters and Netflix over recent weeks but received no word on a replacement venue or whether the bout will carry professional status.
Mayweather has since announced two exhibitions — one against Mike Tyson without a date or location, and another against Greek kickboxer Mike Zambidis set for June 27 in Athens. Meanwhile, Business Insider reported the IRS filed a $7.3 million lien against Mayweather for unpaid taxes from 2018 and 2023.
No timeline has been provided for when or where a Mayweather-Pacquiao rematch might land.
