Mason Targets Multi-Division Domination
Abdullah Mason became boxing's youngest current world champion at 20 years old. He intends to keep collecting.
The 22-year-old makes his first WBO lightweight title defence against Albert Bell at the Wolstein Center in Cleveland. his first major appearance since capturing the vacant belt by defeating Sam Noakes last November.
"I can't wait to collect a lot more of these. From here on, I'm looking to collect more titles, whatever way they come. I'm ready to grab them all up. However many I want to climb. Whether it's one, two, three, four, five, six. Each division is going to be the same thing I'm doing at 135. And I'm taking it one step at a time,” Mason
Mason is 20-0 with 17 knockouts, physically young enough to add weight naturally across multiple weight classes as his frame develops, and already operating at world championship level before most fighters his age have found their footing at the elite level.
Bell is that next step. The Cleveland crowd gives Mason a home atmosphere for a defence that carries its own pressure — first title defences are where champions either consolidate what they built or reveal that the belt arrived before they were ready for it. Mason's knockout ratio and the manner of his title win suggest the latter is unlikely, but Bell is experienced enough to present real questions.
