Kavanagh vs. Royval Odds and Prediction at UFC 329
Lone'er Kavanagh meets Brandon Royval in a flyweight showdown at UFC 329 this Saturday at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, with Royval opening as a -225 favourite over the surging Kavanagh, per MMA Mania.
Kavanagh vaulted into title contention in February when he knocked off former champion Brandon Moreno on short notice in Mexico City. The 27-year-old Brit used sharp kicks and explosive counters to exploit Moreno's damaged legs, notching the biggest win of his career and erasing the sting of an earlier loss to Charles Johnson. Royval, meanwhile, has dropped back-to-back fights to current champion Joshua Van and knockout artist Manel Kape, though both defeats came against the top two threats in the 125-pound division.
How Kavanagh's Speed Matches Up Against Royval's Volume
Kavanagh carries clear advantages in speed and power, but Royval brings the kind of relentless pace that has tripped up elite flyweights before. MMA Mania's Andrew Richardson, a professional fighter at Team Alpha Male, noted that Royval is "a record-setting striker, a nonstop wood chipper with great durability," and suggested the 33-year-old must "walk through" Kavanagh's counters to exploit the Englishman's cardio questions. Kavanagh slowed badly in the Johnson loss and has generally faded over five rounds, though he managed his gas tank well against an already hobbled Moreno.
Royval's best path is to pressure early, target the body, and force a grinding fight into the later rounds. Kavanagh, conversely, should look to win the kicking battle from distance and punish Royval's advances with crisp counters. Richardson expects Kavanagh's speed to be decisive. He can land the bigger shots in exchanges and then wrestle or move laterally to diffuse Royval's volume, though Royval figures to rally late if the fight stays competitive.
UFC 329 airs live on pay-per-view Saturday night, with the Kavanagh-Royval bout positioning the winner as a potential title challenger at flyweight.
