Kambosos Wants A Rematch With Lopez – ‘It’s Up To Him'

George Kambosos Jr. is open to the idea of fighting Teofimo Lopez once again.

Kambosos handed Lopez the only defeat of his career with a split-decision victory that shocked the world after Lopez had beaten Vasiliy Lomachenko to become the unified and lineal lightweight champion.

The fight was clouded by controversy with a heated build up and a post-fight diagnosis that divided fans.

It transpired in the aftermath that Lopez could have died in the ring because of a pneumomediastinum condition that affected his breathing.

The ‘Takeover’ did not reveal the condition to the New York State Athletic Commission on the grounds that he suspected it was his asthma.

"I fought through asthma before. If I told everybody, they would’ve canceled the fight. But I chose not to, because of the amount of pressure I was under. I didn’t want to hear people say, ‘Oh, another postponement," Lopez

Not only that, but Lopez’s father, Teofimo Lopez Sr.  disputed the decision believing that his son had won the fight.

And in doing so, Lopez Sr. uncharacteristically called out DAZN in what he believed to be a mass injustice, as things turned sour.

"Everybody knows (Teofimo) won that fight. Everybody knows that. I had it 10-2, 9-3…We been at this weight for eight years, at 135, and it’s time to move up.

"It’s time to go up to 140 and this bulls**t — ‘cause it’s a bulls**t loss, I should’ve never fought with DAZN, I should’ve stood with Top Rank ‘cause those are the people that really love us," Lopez Sr.

With that being said, Kambosos is now open to the idea of taking Lopez on again.

Such a fight would have to be at 140, given that Lopez has moved up since their last fight, with his victory over Josh Taylor to become a two-division champion.

While that may be the case, Lopez has since retired, even if he did admit that a comeback is possible with a nine-figure payday.

And if that were to happen, Kombosos is ready for the challenge.

"If he wants to do it again, I’ll see him again. I beat him. I took his belts and beat him fair & square. If he wants to get it done and it makes sense, maybe he can come over to Australia.

I went to his backyard, or we can do it in Greece or somewhere else. Yeah, we can do it. It’s up to him [Teofimo] and his team," Kambosos
