Charles Jourdain's vision failed him in the third round against Marlon Vera at UFC 331, forcing the bantamweight to wave off his own fight from his back in an unusual ending to Saturday's co-main event at Crypto.com Arena.

The Quebecois fighter took to Instagram after the third-round TKO loss to explain what happened. "Lost my eyesight in the third," Jourdain posted on his Story, per MMA Mania. "I waved the fight cause I don't need to receive more strikes to the head. I lost. I failed."

The sudden blindness raises concern given Jourdain's previous retinal issue that cancelled a June 2025 bout with Ricky Simon. At a UFC 331 media event, Jourdain described undergoing laser surgery on his retina after a pre-fight exam flagged damage he could not detect himself. The doctor told him he risked losing the eye if he fought, according to MMA Mania's coverage.

Jourdain started the Vera fight strong but absorbed mounting punishment as the round progressed. "Chito" dropped him multiple times in the third before Jourdain fell to his back and signaled he could not continue. He was not among the two fighters transported to hospital after the card.

The loss snapped a three-fight win streak for Jourdain at bantamweight, where he had looked rejuvenated after years at featherweight. All three victories earned performance bonuses. His record stands at 9-8 in the UFC.
