Josh Hokit stops Derrick Lewis in round two at UFC White House
Josh Hokit battered Derrick Lewis over two rounds Sunday night before forcing a second-round stoppage at UFC Freedom 250 on the South Lawn of the White House in Washington, D.C.
The undefeated heavyweight prospect landed a takedown midway through the opening frame and controlled Lewis for the remainder of the round, per MMA Fighting's live blog. Hokit dropped ground-and-pound at will, opened a cut, took mount, and threatened an armbar in the final seconds. MMA Fighting scored the round 10-8 for Hokit. Lewis survived the horn but looked drained.
Hokit finishes Lewis in round two
The second round began with Lewis connecting a right hand, but Hokit answered with a one-two combination that appeared to hurt the UFC's all-time knockout leader. Lewis fired back with heavy shots of his own and briefly looked competitive, but Hokit landed another one-two combo that left Lewis visibly exhausted. Hokit swarmed Lewis with punches against the fence and on the ground until the referee stepped in at 4:09 of the second round. MMA Mania reported that Lewis collapsed to the canvas before the stoppage.
After the finish, Hokit called out Alex Pereira yet again. "F*ck the speech," he said during his post-fight interview, according to MMA Fighting. "Alex Pereira, I wanna Chama on your mama." Hokit then left the octagon to shake hands with Donald Trump and gave the former president his necklace, which Trump wore for the remainder of the event.
Hokit improved to 10-0 overall and 4-0 inside the UFC. Lewis dropped to 29-14 and has now been finished in consecutive outings. Pereira and Ciryl Gane fight for the interim heavyweight title later Sunday evening in the co-main event.
