Jon Jones Still Firing Back At Steroid Accusations

Jon Jones addressed the fans who continue to accuse him of using performance-enhancing drugs throughout his career.

Jones has been in this territory before, but the accusation clearly still gets a response out of him.

"I guess people will say, 'Well, Jon took steroids. Never took steroids. It was a supplement found in my body. It was proven to come from a supplement company that I was using. It was a tainted supplement that I was using.

The amount of this substance that was in my body was so small that it took very expensive scientists to even be able to find it, and the supplement that was found in my body has zero performance-enhancing effects. That's very well-documented, and for some reason, the fans, they just ignore all that,” Jones

Jones’ most significant drug test incident came ahead of UFC 200, when a planned rematch with Daniel Cormier was cancelled after Jones tested positive for clomiphene and letrozole — substances that were attributed to a male sexual enhancement pill. He missed the card and was suspended. Then in 2017, his win over Cormier at UFC 214 was overturned to a no contest after he tested positive for turinabol. The amount detected was ultimately described as a trace quantity, and USADA later cleared Jones on the basis of a contaminated supplement.

Whether Jones is the greatest of all time is a question that splits even serious analysts. Daniel Cormier, who lost to Jones twice, has acknowledged the difficulty of assigning that title given the drug test history. Others point to the record, the victories, and the cleared status and consider the matter settled.

Jones fought for the last time in November 2024, stopping Stipe Miocic by TKO in the third round to retain the heavyweight title. He announced his retirement in June 2025. Since then, the door has been left conspicuously ajar. He made noise about appearing on the UFC Freedom 250 card before that fight failed to materialize, which suggests the retirement is provisional rather than final. For now, he is out of the cage and still answering the same questions.
