Walker On Cortes-Acosta Knockout: 'Street Fight'
Johnny Walker ditched his game plan midway through his UFC Vegas 124 main event against Waldo Cortes-Acosta and leaned on pure instinct to land a third-round knockout.
The Brazilian heavyweight wobbled Cortes-Acosta with a series of leg kicks and jabs before delivering a punch that put his opponent flat on the canvas. Walker told MMA Fighting afterward that the finish came from somewhere outside orthodox boxing technique. He described the moment as improvised chaos rather than coached precision.
Walker Settling Into Heavyweight Division
Walker, now 2-0 since moving up from light heavyweight, said he feels stronger and sharper at his natural weight of 240 to 245 pounds. He cut 40 pounds to make 205 throughout most of his UFC run and believes the toll on his body limited his ability to absorb coaching and sustain energy through three rounds. Walker admitted he tested his chin during exchanges with Cortes-Acosta but said he won't make that mistake again.
The win pushes Walker into the top 10 of the heavyweight rankings. He told reporters he has no regrets about spending years at light heavyweight because the experience shaped his current form, but he confirmed heavyweight will be his permanent home moving forward.
Walker accepted the Cortes-Acosta fight on one week's notice and now sits as a live threat in a division where power can erase technical gaps. His next opponent has yet to be announced.
