Joe Pyfer demands main event slot for UFC 330 in Philadelphia
Middleweight Joe Pyfer wants the UFC 330 main event slot in Philadelphia or he does not want to fight on the card at all.
The Philly native aired his frustration on social media about the possibility of being passed over for the headliner when the promotion returns to his city. "I'm pissed," Pyfer said, according to Sherdog. "I should be the main event of Philly. I have no interest if I'm not at the main event."
Why Pyfer believes he deserves the Philadelphia spotlight
Pyfer pointed to the depth of Philadelphia talent on the UFC roster as reason enough to feature a local fighter in the top billing. The 28-year-old has built a reputation as a finishing threat at middleweight and views a hometown main event as the natural progression for his career.
The UFC has not announced matchups or a main event for the Philadelphia card. Pyfer's public stance puts pressure on matchmakers to either meet his demand or risk losing one of the region's most marketable fighters from the lineup entirely.
UFC 330 takes place later this year at Wells Fargo Center.
