Joe Lauzon signs with BKFC, debuts at Fenway Park in August
Joe Lauzon has signed a multi-fight contract with BKFC and will make his promotional debut at Fenway Park on Aug. 29, MMA Fighting reports.
The Massachusetts native last competed in October 2019, stopping Jonathan Pearce in 93 seconds at UFC Boston. Lauzon was matched with Donald Cerrone three times afterward, but none of those bouts materialized. Now 42, he returns to action at BKFC 92 against an opponent yet to be named.
Why Lauzon chose Fenway for his comeback
Lauzon told the promotion that the venue sealed his decision. "The thing that got me really excited was fighting at Fenway Park," he said. "I've fought in Boston before and I fought at TD Garden, but there's something special about competing on the field at Fenway."
He grew up a Red Sox fan and watched the team win the World Series while in college. "To have the chance to fight there is pretty incredible," he said. "Getting to fight there is something I'll remember forever."
Lauzon compiled 27 UFC fights over a career that began with one of the promotion's most memorable debuts — a 48-second knockout of former lightweight champion Jens Pulver on short notice at UFC 63 in September 2006. He appeared on the fifth season of The Ultimate Fighter before that breakthrough win.
BKFC 92 marks the bare-knuckle promotion's first event at Fenway Park. No opponent has been announced for Lauzon's return.
