Jake Paul Slams The State Of Influencer Boxing, Diaz Walks Out Of His Interview
Jake Paul has slammed the state of the influencer-boxing scene by urging the fighters to up their game.
Paul has transformed himself ever since his first fight against Youtuber Ali Eson Gib. The victory was followed up with a step up in competition by facing former MMA stars such as Ben Askren, Tyron Woodley and Anderson Silva.
Victories over all three led to Paul’s first ever fight with a professional boxer against Tommy Fury. Despite coming second best, Paul did manage to go the distance in a split-decision loss.
And in the process, he did put Fury on the canvas with his jab. However, when it came to the wider-influencer-boxing realm, Paul had a few choice words to say.
Paul’s Comments
"It’s tough because they are not going to listen. I don’t think it’s my job. Influencers and YouTubers are crazy. It’s just tough because we want to create new eyeballs for the sport but don’t want it to be a gimmick.
"Don’t be a gimmick. Don’t do cringe s*!t and get your skill up. You want to promote yourself, have big fights and make a name for yourself, start in the gym," Paul
This is understandable since there have been some high-profile incidents that have cast a dark cloud over influencer boxing. Youtuber Alex Stein caused uproar when he threw sausages at fellow Muslim Youtuber MoDeen.
And as Stein claimed they were pork, which is outlawed in the religion of Islam, there was a huge brawl that followed. As a result, the fight was called off much to the disappointment of fans.
Diaz Walks Out Of Interview
But when it comes to Paul, he is intent on letting his boxing skills do the talking. He is set to face Nate Diaz on August 5th, 2023, in what will be latter’s boxing debut.
And by the looks of it, the build-up has been clouded by controversy. During a sit-down interview with both fighters, Paul praised Diaz over his accomplishments.
"He’s a warrior. He’s put on some of the greatest fights in the history of MMA. He has an amazing fan base and people love him for a reason.
"I know he’s coming to bring a war. That’s what it says ‘ready for a f***ing war’. I think the fans are the ones who are going to win the most out of it because we both don’t want to lose or back down," Paul
But rather than accept the praise, Diaz did something else. The MMA star decided to get up and walk away by stating that he would be ‘ right back.’ However, he simply got in his car and drove off, leaving the masses confused.
And yet, in the aftermath of that process, Diaz stated that he did return only to find that no one was there.
Diaz is an unpredictable fighter which is why Paul must be at the top of his game. A win for Paul banishes the memories of the Fury defeat.
However, another loss raises serious question marks over his career. With that being said, the pressure is on Paul to deliver. So can he do it?
