Jake Paul's Boxing Future Uncertain
Jake Paul has cast doubt over whether he will return to boxing, revealing that a broken jaw suffered during his knockout loss to Anthony Joshua in December 2025 could ultimately force him out of the ring permanently.
Paul underwent surgery following the defeat. While he has indicated the jaw is healing, he has been candid about the uncertainty that remains: I think it depends on how the bone heals, and then also, there is a tooth missing here — I'm pretty sure I will have to get an implanted tooth of some sort. We just have to see. Just figure out the smartest thing for me."
The loss to Joshua was Paul's second professional defeat and by far the most consequential in terms of the level of opposition faced. Paul had spent the years prior building his record against a mix of YouTubers, retired athletes, and fringe professional fighters before gradually stepping up toward credible opposition. Joshua, a two-time unified heavyweight champion, represented a significant leap — and the result was decisive.
Paul has now undergone surgery on two separate occasions in his recovery, and the timeline for any return remains unclear. His team has stated that the intention, should he come back, is to compete at cruiserweight. Paul himself has not moved away from his stated ambition of winning a world title.
"I want to become a world champion. I'm going to become a world champion and these fights are all just stepping stones to get there. I'm slowly improving. I've sparred against world champions and done phenomenal against them, so who knows what can happen in two to three years from now when I go into my athletic prime? I'm starting to really, really get this sport and all aspects of it.
"It's really actually scary what could possibly happen. I think not only will I become a world champion, I think I will be a dominant world champion and knock someone out for the belt,” Jake stated
