Brown Warns Paul On White Fight Strategy

Jake Paul and Most Valuable Promotions are taking the wrong approach in their attempt to compete with the UFC, according to former welterweight Matt Brown.

Paul has been vocal about his criticism of the UFC's business model since entering the MMA space through MVP, which recently merged with the PFL. He has promised to offer fighters better compensation and shake up the industry, but Brown believes the strategy is fundamentally flawed.

Brown Questions MVP's Strategy Against UFC

"They're trying to fight a dick-swinging contest with the UFC, right?" Brown said on MMA Fighting's "The Fighter vs. The Writer." "When you're trying to outspend or try to get better fighters. You don't have a chance."

Brown added that Paul and his partners appear to misunderstand the competitive landscape. "They try to get in this d*ck-swinging contest with Dana White. You're barking up the wrong tree," he said, per MMA Fighting.

MVP has made waves in women's boxing, promoting the Katie Taylor-Amanda Serrano trilogy, and entered MMA last May with plans for Ronda Rousey versus Gina Carano. Paul attended PFL New York in late July as the merged promotion begins its push into the market.

The company's first major test will be re-signing undefeated PFL lightweight champion Usman Nurmagomedov, whose stock rose after two strong bouts against Paul Hughes. Nurmagomedov's manager has said PFL chose not to extend his deal before free agency opened.
