Jake Paul says he learned his lesson after Anthony Joshua KO
Jake Paul plans to fight again but says he won't aim as high as Anthony Joshua after the former unified heavyweight champion broke his jaw last December.
Paul told Pat McAfee on Wednesday that he's been cleared to spar soon and is in talks with multiple opponents for both boxing and MMA bouts, according to Bad Left Hook. "I just probably won't fight Olympic gold medal heavyweights anymore," he said. "I learned my lesson."
Paul targets Brock Lesnar in MMA return
The 29-year-old influencer-turned-boxer also floated a potential MMA match with Brock Lesnar, citing his high school wrestling background in Ohio. Lesnar, a former NCAA Division I heavyweight champion, turned 49 in July and hasn't won a competitive fight since stopping Shane Carwin at UFC 116 in 2010. His last appearance in the cage came in 2016.
Paul hasn't fought or sparred since the Joshua stoppage at Miami's Kaseya Center but expects to resume training once doctors give final clearance. He added that a rematch with Nate Diaz in MMA remains possible. Paul beat Diaz by decision in a boxing ring in August 2023, a period many consider the peak of his legitimacy as a prizefighter.
No timeline has been announced for Paul's return, though he indicated he's working through opponent options now.
