Elvin Brito was supposed to be on a punishment tour on his way back to winning the BKFC Welterweight championship. However, online boxing news shows that Brito’s path back to reclaiming the belt took another detour Friday night at Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Kansas. Brito handed no punishment to Jake Lindsey.

Instead, Lindsey was able to consistently pick off one of the BKFC’s earliest champions. By setting a strong pace and being willing to engage in some long-range striking, Lindsey was able to lean on his reach advantage. Lindsey landed 67 percent of his punches and controlled the fight from the outset.

While Lindsey wasn’t able to score a knockdown, he consistently frustrated Brito with his accuracy. Lindsey improved to 5-1 in BKFC and will hope to have a chance to challenge for the belt soon. However, in the post-fight interview, Lindsey said he is willing and able to take on all comers.

If a title fight isn’t available, he would like an opportunity to fight current BKFC fighter and former UFC champion Eddie Alvarez. Lindsey isn’t intimidated by anyone the BKFC has on its current roster.

“I just like fighting,” Lindsey said following the fight. “Let me fight anybody. Let me fight Eddie Alvarez. I’ll fight anyone. I’m a real (expletive) fighter. I’ve been that way for 20 years. I’ve never said no to anybody, and I’m never going to.”

Surprisingly, Brito and Lindsey’s fight was the only fight of the evening that needed a judge’s intervention. Here’s a look at the rest of the action from the BKFC Fight Night Kansas City event.

Vincent Announces His Intentions

Brito wasn’t the only former championship challenger who had a rough night, according to boxing news latest headlines. Doug Coltrane once challenged for the BKFC middleweight championship. But facing off Kansas City area resident Zeb Vincent proved to be too difficult of a challenge.

Coltrane, who was ranked No. 2 in the division, saw everything come to a close in the fourth round. Late in the fourth frame, Vincent, unranked entering the fight, trapped an exhausted Coltrane against the ropes.

It wasn’t the cleanest combination, but Vincent poured on the pressure while Coltrane attempted to shell up. The referee waived off the fight, and Vincent picked up an important win to move to 3-1 in his career.

Jones Wins in Enemy Territory

Quincy, Illinois, is about a 3.5-hour drive from Kansas City. The seven-hour round trip turned out to be worth it for Tyler Jones. Fighting against a local product, Ira Johnson, who is from just over the state line in Kansas City, Missouri, Jones figured to have his hands full.

But Jones looked much more comfortable than Johnson. He attempted 100 more strikes and landed at a higher rate. His punches were much more impactful as well.

Jones knocked Johnson down three times. The most devastating came in the third round when he landed a headshot that put him down for good. This was a good way for Jones to introduce himself to the fanbase.

Both men were making their debut in the organization, and Jones came away looking good.

Kiser Didn’t Hear No Bell

JW Kiser had to be a little worried. Only seconds into the fight, he was down on the canvas. But that would be the best moment of the bout for Mikey Furnier.

While Furnier landed at a slightly higher percentage than Kiser, he couldn’t make his shots count in the heavyweight bout. Save for the knockdown at the beginning of the fighter, Furnier didn’t look conditioned enough to push a heavy pace.

Furnier, who is 0-3 in his BKFC career, saw everything come apart late in the second round. Kiser strung together some stiff punches to get the referee to waive off the fight with four seconds left in the round.

Peralta Rallies For a Victory

With bare-knuckle fighting being a young organized combat sport, it’s natural for MMAFighting latest news to see former MMA fighters or traditional gloved boxers take time to adjust to the new rules. Eduardo Peralta is one of the fighters who has started out with mixed results.

But Peralta improved to 2-2 in his career by picking up a second-round KO victory over Deron Carlis. Peralta’s performance was far from perfect. He got sat down in the first round by Carlis during their welterweight fight.

The knockdown seemed to wake up Peralta. Over the next round and a half, he put a tremendous amount of pressure on Carlis. He scored four knockdowns, including the final one with one second left in the second round.

No Quit in Blaine Warbritton

Having doctors at ringside is important at BKFC events. Otherwise, Justyn Martinez may have continued to try and battle to win his fight against Blaine Warbritton. But after Martinez had been battered by his opponent’s power, Warbritton was awarded a win when the doctor stopped the fight at the end of the fourth round.

Martinez has had a rough run in the BKFC, and his record fell to 0-4. Warbritton has opened his time in the promotion with back-to-back wins. Warbritton can carve out a nice place for himself in the promotion if he can continue to finish his opponents. During Warbritton’s flyweight bout, he landed 64.4 percent of his strikes.

Fighters who can earn stoppages consistently in lower weight classes can be difficult to find.

Here’s a look at the rest of the fight not mentioned above:

  • Women’s flyweight Charlene Gellner win by doctor’s stoppage over Karla Alvarez, Retired end of Round 3
  • Heavyweight, Anthony Garrett win by TKO over John Orr, Round 1 :16
  • Bantamweight, Matt Guymon win by TKO over Jacob Akin, Round 3 2:00
  • Cruiserweight, Devon Schwan win by TKO over Jesse Pringle, Round 1 1:04
