Jake Hager Undergoes Second Eye Surgery After Power Slap TKO
Jake Hager had a second eye surgery this week to repair a detached retina stemming from an injury he suffered during a Power Slap event in September.
The former Bellator fighter, who also wrestled in WWE under the name Jack Swagger, underwent the procedure after doctors discovered the retinal detachment two months following the initial trauma, MMA Mania reports. Hager's fiancée Patricia confirmed the surgery in comments shared by Slap News on Instagram, writing that doctors said the operation "went better than expected."
What Happened at Power Slap 23
Hager was stopped in September at Power Slap 23 when blood and fluid began leaking from his eye mid-contest. He underwent emergency surgery that night but continued experiencing complications through October.
"Send your love and prayers to Jake and Patricia as they navigate a very sensitive and unpredictable recovery," the Slap News account posted. Patricia thanked the UFC and Power Slap for their support and praised Hager's medical team.
Hager signed with Dana White's slap-fighting league in April and won his debut by third-round knockout. He dropped his next two appearances, both by stoppage. Power Slap continues operating despite criticism over contestant safety and lost its television slot after a brief run. The league recently signed a residency deal with MGM Resorts and runs events alongside UFC cards.
