Ignacio Campos chokes out Wasi Adeshina at PFL Nigeria
Ignacio Campos silenced the Eko Convention Centre crowd when he choked out Wasi Adeshina in the first round at PFL Nigeria on Friday night.
Campos, an 8-2 featherweight out of Spain, dropped Adeshina with a knee midway through the opening frame, per Sherdog. The two had traded wrestling exchanges against the fence and strikes in open space before Campos timed the shot perfectly. From half-guard, he landed heavy punches as Adeshina tried to escape, then took the back and locked in a rear-naked choke at 1:45 of Round 1. Adeshina tapped, suffering his first loss under the Professional Fighters League banner and dropping to 10-4 overall.
Patrick Ocheme finishes Ayinda Octave with flying knee
In the co-main event, Patrick Ocheme stopped Ayinda Octave with a flying knee at 3:17 of the first round in a lightweight tournament quarterfinal. The PFL broadcast showed Ocheme measuring distance before he charged forward and landed the knee while Octave attempted a takedown. Octave, now 7-2, crumpled instantly. Ocheme added a left hand before the referee waved it off.
Karim Henniene stayed unbeaten at 7-0 by putting Thimna Mhlauli unconscious with an anaconda choke 2:23 into their bantamweight clash. Henniene, billed as "The Kryptonian," took the fight to the mat early and forced Mhlauli out before he could defend the hold. Mhlauli fell to 5-1 in his PFL debut.
Cornel Thompson outpointed Aureo Cruz across three rounds, taking a unanimous decision on 29-28 cards to advance in the lightweight tournament. Thompson controlled distance with his striking in the first two rounds before Cruz found success on the mat late. The judges sided with Thompson, who improved to 12-3 under the PFL banner.
The PFL Africa season continues with the next round of tournament bouts set for later this summer.
