Iglesias Calls Canelo-Mbilli 50/50, Wants Winner Next
IBF middleweight/" class="internal-link text-bone underline decoration-ash/30 hover:decoration-gold underline-offset-2">super middleweight champion Osleys Iglesias will be watching closely when Canelo Alvarez challenges Christian Mbilli for the WBC title Saturday in Riyadh.
Iglesias, who stopped Oliver Zaren in seven rounds to defend his strap in October, told The Ring he views the bout as a coin flip and plans to pursue the winner for a unification. The Cuban contender sits at No. 2 in The Ring's divisional rankings, wedged between Canelo at the top and Mbilli at No. 3.
Iglesias Breaks Down Canelo-Mbilli Clash
Asked for his take on Saturday's headliner, the unbeaten 28-year-old acknowledged both men bring dangerous strengths after year-long layoffs. "I think the fight is 50/50, Canelo has a lot of experience and he can dominate the fight," Iglesias said, per The Ring. "On the other hand though, Mbilli is very aggressive and hungry to come out on top."
Iglesias admitted he favors a Canelo victory because it would generate more buzz at 168 pounds, but stressed his real goal is a crack at whichever man leaves the Kingdom Boxing Stadium with the belt. "Whoever wins though, I want to fight him," he said. "For me, it doesn't really matter."
The fight airs on DAZN pay-per-view worldwide. Iglesias carries a 16-0 record with 15 knockouts into any potential unification negotiation.
