Hearn Expects The Winner Of Joshua Vs. Ngannou To Fight For Undisputed
Eddie Hearn expects the winner of Anthony Joshua vs Francis Ngannou to face the Undisputed Heavyweight Champion, which will be decided when Tyson Fury takes on Oleksandr Usyk.
Joshua faces Ngannou on March 8, after the undisputed bout on February 17. That will be Ngannou’s second boxing bout after he faced Fury, which earned him much praise. Despite losing a split decision, he earned a WBC top-ten ranking, which played a major part in getting the Joshua fight. But the winner will likely fight for all the belts after Turki Alalshikh intends to make that bout. Now Hearn expects it to go ahead, too.
Joshua Vs. Ngannou
“So, we get a straight shot at undisputed, and if Fury beats Usyk, which I hope he does, and we beat Ngannou, you got self-made arguably in the history of the sport. You know how things work over there. You know if Fury beats Usyk and Joshua beats Ngannou, the whole world is going to go, ‘Oh my God. It’s AJ-Fury, undisputed.
"So, yes, there’s a rematch clause, and people have got to be respected and contracted. But also, you know the vision of His Excellency. He’s going to want to deliver for fans worldwide the biggest fight of our generation, and it’ll be right on a plate in front of him. But Fury has got to beat Usyk first and AJ has got to beat Ngannou. As you saw with Wilder against Parker, things can happen,” Hearn said
Usyk On Fury
As for the undisputed bout, Usyk has warned Fury that he is prepared for the biggest fight in boxing. Both boxers recently had a face-off during which they discussed their mindset running up to the fight. Usyk remained unfazed by Fury’s jibes towards him over his earrings, while Fury stated that he only needed five weeks to prepare for Usyk.
Fury is generally seen as the winner of any mind games. Still, Usyk’s calm demeanour has presented the Gypsy King with another obstacle, given the Ukrainian’s unwillingness to engage in trash talk. But rather than trying to avoid that, Usyk has claimed he is winning the battle of any mind games.
“Tyson Fury is the one who talks too much. The idea for this is to get into my head. But the reality is, I’m inside his head,” Usyk stated
Those comments were clarified by Gareth A. Davies.
“When Tyson has a go at Usyk, it just gives him fuel because he’s not someone that responds. He responds as he’s walking off. He’s not one of those guys that’s in your face. He takes it back to his camp. He’s going to be very, very dangerous against Tyson Fury. It’s going to be a difficult fight. He’s very technical, he moves so well, and he’s not easy to hit."
With the undisputed fight almost here, both fighters know there is plenty on the line, with the winner becoming the best of his era.
