Hawkins Unbothered By 6-Inch Height Gap At BKB 61
BKB champion Cub Hawkins is not losing sleep over the six-inch height disadvantage he will face against Rowdy Legend Montgomery when the two meet Friday at Bally's Fightnight by BKB in Biloxi, Mississippi.
Hawkins, who owns more Trigon wins than anyone in BKB Bare Knuckle Boxing history, told Sherdog he has not spent time scouting Montgomery ahead of their 160-pound nontitle bout. "I don't really know anything about him," he said. "I just know I'm going to show up and, you know, do what I do."
Hawkins Sticks To Standard Prep For Montgomery Fight
The 28-year-old from Chicago, who holds titles at both 175 and 185 pounds, said his camp with head coach Jesse Brock at SBG Idaho followed its usual routine. No special game plan was drawn up to deal with Montgomery's 6-foot-2 frame. Hawkins stands 5-foot-8.
Hawkins carries a 10-1 bare-knuckle record with nine finishes. He stopped PFL and UFC veteran Jesse Ronson in his most recent outing to defend his 185-pound strap. His lone loss came early in his BKB tenure.
The fighter known as The Savage said he expects his hand raised Friday and sees a long future with the promotion. "I'm the champ and so that's the goal — to stay the champ," he told Sherdog. He worked primarily with pro fighters Raymond Lawley and Andrew Cruz during camp.
Hawkins acknowledged the mental edge bare-knuckle boxing demands and the constant risk of hand injuries when throwing with full power. He dismissed the prospect of crossover bouts between BKB and rival BKFC, saying the promotions would never allow it. The bout takes place at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Biloxi.
