Devin Haney will defend his welterweight title against Liam Paro in a two-belt unification bout Dec. 19 at San Francisco's Chase Center, with the WBO and IBF straps on the line.
The fight pairs a former undisputed lightweight champion against an Australian titleholder who pulled off an upset road win earlier this year. Bad Left Hook first carried Haney's comments that his record proves he chases hard fights. "I've never been afraid to go into a champion's backyard and put my record on the line," Haney said, according to the report. He pointed to traveling to Australia to strip George Kambosos of his belts before moving up in weight.

Paro Aims To Play Spoiler In Haney's Backyard
Paro enters as the underdog but reminded reporters he took Subriel Matias' belt in Puerto Rico earlier this year. Per Bad Left Hook, the challenger said he respects Haney's skills but has upset odds before. "I've been the underdog plenty of times and I've made history before," Paro said. He noted he fought on the undercard at Chase Center three years ago when Haney stopped Regis Prograis and predicted then that the matchup would eventually happen.
Haney framed the bout as a homecoming. He grew up in Oakland and said the Bay Area shaped his career. The card features a co-main event between Brian Norman and Abel Ramos.
