Haney Could Come Back Down To 135, Saunders Wants The Eubank Jr. Rematch

In today’s boxing news, Devin Haney has not ruled out a return to lightweight moving forward.
The ‘Dream’ made the decision to move up to 140 in order to fight Regis Prograis for his WBC belt. A win would make Haney a two-division champion after having won all the belts at 135.
And since Haney became the youngest undisputed champion of the four-belt era, there was not much to prove at lightweight. Although that may have been the case, he is a champion in recess at 135 for the WBC belt.
That would allow Haney to move back down to face the winner of Shakur Stevenson vs. Frank De La Santos for the belt. A fight between Haney and Stevenson had been talked about, however, a 25 percent offer was knocked back by the latter.
In addition, there is a mega fight between Haney and Gervonta Davis which could get made at 135. So provided that the fight makes sense, Haney was open to it.
Haney On Fighting At 135
"We gotta see. There’s a lot of big fights at 135, big fights at 140, we’ll see what makes the most sense. It’s no secret what he’s gonna bring to the table but we don’t know what I’m gonna bring to the table," Haney stated
But before that can happen, Haney must overcome Prograis. The ‘Dream’ is making his first appearance at 140, against one of the best in the division. Prograis is a two-time world champion, which is why he cannot be taken lightly.
Saunders On Eubank
In addition, Billy Joe Saunders is keen on having a rematch with Chris Eubank Jr. moving forward. Saunders has been absent from the ring for around two years since he was stopped by Canelo Alvarez in the eighth round.
The eye injury that was sustained could have threatened Saunders’ career for good had his trainer, Ben Davidson, not intervened to stop the fight.
Since then, Saunders has put on additional weight with the extra time off as question marks remain over which weight class he will compete at.
As of now, a comeback at 175 is being considered, before he moves back down to 168. And at that point, Saunders is willing to face Eubank Jr. at super middleweight provided that the latter overcomes Conor Benn in a potential fight.
"Listen, commercially [the rematch is one] that makes sense for both of us. Eddie is the man to make it. At the minute, he’s a 160 fighter, so I think he’s trying to prove himself at 160. Obviously, there’s a big fight for him there at the minute in Conor Benn. It’s an interesting fight that everybody wants to see. I’ll let Conor Benn take care of him at 160, then he’ll probably move up to 168 and I’ll just finish him off. I’ll take the leftovers," Saunders said
Benn’s Issues
But before that can happen, a fight between Eubank and Benn is not certain. Benn must overcome his legal case concerning UKAD and the BBBofC, who have appealed the decision of the National Anti-Doping Agency to remove his suspension following his two failed VADA tests for Clomiphene.
If those obstacles can be navigated, then Eubank would be a huge favorite in the Benn rematch, paving the way for another fight with Saunders.
