Haney Beats Ramirez In A Dull Decision – ‘Pay Me To Watch This'
Devin Haney put his Ryan Garcia no-contest behind him with a dull-inspiring unanimous decision victory (119-109, 119-109, 118-110) over Jose Ramirez in his first fight at 147.
The win was vital for Haney’s brand, especially knowing Garcia lost to Rolando Romero. While his performance did not leave much to be desired, Devin remained undefeated. Ramirez was trying to cut the ring off, with Haney staying on the outside with very little action in the first. Haney threw his jab tentatively, but the focus was to keep his right hand high without risking himself too much.
Haney landed a telling right hand in the second, but once again, it was a cautious start. Ramirez took the initiative in the third round, as he backed Devin up. A left hand landed in the first signs of trouble for Haney. However, The Dream hit back with a right of his own in the third. He followed up with a left hook in the fourth to stop Ramirez’s momentum. A right uppercut also buzzed Ramirez in the fourth as Ramirez struggled to gain a foothold.
Heading into the second of half of the fight, it was the same story. Ramirez was now cut under his left eye. Haney avoided engaging too much by boxing on the outside. The two fighters did not throw too many punches. The CompuBox numbers showed that the fight was the fourth lowest-ever punch count in a fight over 12 rounds. The two only landed 110 punches, with Haney connecting with 70 while Ramirez landed 40.
