Gigi Canuto destroys Anita Karim in 25 seconds on TUF 34
Brazilian strawweight Gigi Canuto stopped Anita Karim in 25 seconds during their TUF 34 quarterfinal bout, MMA Mania reports.
Canuto landed three teep kicks in the opening 20 seconds inside the Meta Apex in Las Vegas. The third folded Karim over. Canuto rushed forward, unloaded punches, and added one more kick before the referee waved it off. The finish advances Canuto to the semifinals and eliminates Karim from the competition on the season coached by Daniel Cormier and Michael Bisping.
Canuto's grappling credentials meet striking finish
Canuto entered the show as one of the most hyped prospects in the cast. The 7-1 fighter is a high-level Brazilian jiu-jitsu champion who fought exclusively under the Legacy Fighting Alliance banner before TUF, racking up five submission wins and one knockout. Karim, the first female fighter from Pakistan to compete professionally in MMA, came in 6-2 with four fights under the ONE Championship banner and a 50 percent finish rate.
The women's bracket has carried the season so far. Melissa Amaya upset Anna Melisano in the first women's fight, surviving Melisano's Muay Thai striking before securing a first-round submission. The men's opener, a unanimous decision win for Christian Strong, drew criticism for its lack of action. Episode four of TUF 34 airs next Tuesday on Paramount Plus, featuring Artem Belakh against Mehemmedeli Osmanli in the next quarterfinal matchup.
