Cris Cyborg farewell fight set for PFL Tampa on Aug. 22
Cris Cyborg will retire from mixed martial arts on Aug. 22 when she defends her featherweight title against Ketlen Vieira at PFL Tampa.
The promotion announced Wednesday that Cyborg's final bout will headline the Benchmark International Arena card in Tampa, Florida, with the main card airing on ESPN at 9 p.m. ET, as Sherdog reported. The 40-year-old Brazilian has won nine straight fights since leaving the UFC in July 2019 and holds the distinction of capturing titles in five major promotions — UFC, Bellator, Invicta, Strikeforce, and PFL.
Vieira aims to spoil retirement party
Vieira arrives after a 10-5 run in the Octagon that ended with her release earlier this year. The former UFC bantamweight contender stopped Jacqueline Cavalcanti's eight-fight streak at UFC Fight Night 276 and owns wins over Holly Holm, Miesha Tate, and Cat Zingano.
PFL CEO John Martin said in a statement that Cyborg "is a pioneer of not just women's MMA, but mixed martial arts as a whole," per the announcement. He added that Vieira "has one mission: ruin the goodbye and take the title."
Cyborg last fought in December, submitting Sara Collins in the third round at PFL Lyon. Between MMA bouts, she has stayed active with seven boxing matches since 2022.
