Gervonta Davis Cleared Of Domestic Violence Charges – What's Next?

Gervonta Davis has been cleared of his domestic violence charges by the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office.

Reports indicated that Davis was apprehended following an incident on June 15 where he allegedly assaulted his ex-girlfriend. Davis was arrested and then bailed, as his expected rematch with Lamont Roach, scheduled for August 16, was delayed. There has been massive pressure on Davis to get back in the ring following the result of the first fight. Davis secured a majority draw to retain his WBA Lightweight Title.

However, many people had Tank losing had it not been for the referee. The referee failed to give Davis a count when he took a voluntary knee in round nine. The decision prevented Roach from winning on the scorecards. While Roach appealed the decision, the original ruling was upheld. Davis’ fighting future is uncertain with suggestions he may retire, although those rumors have been shut down by his camp. Tim Bradley felt Davis was not mentally in the right frame of mind for boxing any longer.

The Future

"Tank is done. Tank hung ‘em up, shoes off, put a plaque up. He’s done. Tank is checked out mentally. Tank is gone mentally. Tank is looking for the big bag, a Jake Paul, and then he’s out. I’ll see you later. I think he’s done. He has a lot on his mind that he wants to do, and he’s kind of sick of the sport of boxing," Bradley stated

This is not the first time that Davis has been involved in legal trouble. For example, in 2020, he was arrested on simple battery charges, and in 2021, he was found guilty of a hit-and-run, leading to a period of house arrest. The dismissal of the most recent charges allows him to focus on rebuilding his image as a dominant PPV star.

However, that will also depend on Tank taking some risks. He has consistently been linked with fights against the likes of Shakur Stevenson, Devin Haney and Teofimo Lopez to name a few. The failure to make those fights has led to massive criticism over Tank’s resume. While he has earned large purses, Davis has to decide whether he also wants to add legacy too.
