Ian Machado Garry says Carlos Prates is next if he captures the welterweight title at UFC 330 this Saturday, but the Irish contender warned the Brazilian knockout artist that a rematch will end worse than their first meeting.

Garry told reporters at a media day scrum that he controlled Prates for the bulk of their April 2025 fight, which he won by unanimous decision despite a late rally from "The Nightmare." "I whooped his ass for 24 minutes, and I did it on three weeks' notice," Garry said, per BJPenn.com. "So, if he wants to give me three, four months, he knows what's gonna happen. He'll be able to sleep well after the next one."

Since falling to Garry in Kansas City, Prates has rattled off three straight finishes. He stopped Geoff Neal with one second left in the opening round at UFC 319, knocked out former champion Leon Edwards in the second round, and then finished Jack Della Maddalena with a third-round TKO. Garry acknowledged the Brazilian's run at the scrum, calling him the most deserving contender in the division.

Garry challenges Islam Makhachev for the 170-pound strap Saturday night in Philadelphia. The Irish fighter took the Prates bout on short notice after losing a competitive decision to Shavkat Rakhmonov in 2024. He said no other welterweight has earned a title shot with fewer than one more win.
