Garry Says Makhachev Has No Chance On The Feet

Ian Machado Garry says Islam Makhachev has zero chance in a standup battle at UFC 330.

Garry will challenge Makhachev for the welterweight title on Aug. 15 in Philadelphia, entering the cage as a heavy underdog against the top-ranked pound-for-pound fighter in the sport. The Irish contender remains undeterred. On the UFC 330 countdown show, per BJ Penn.com, Garry laid out why his striking will overwhelm the champion.

Garry Targets Knockout Finish

"Islam's never fought anybody as long and tall as I am," Garry said. "Let alone somebody who moves the way I move. He doesn't have a chance against me on the feet, and I need to see him unconscious. There's no excuses when I beat him."

Makhachev fired back, calling Garry's talk familiar territory. "Everybody say before the fight, 'I'm gonna knock him out. I'm gonna finish Islam. I'm gonna stop his wrestling,' but it's not working," the champion said. "I'm gonna do whatever I want and finish him. I'm the best fighter in the world, and I'm gonna show it in Philadelphia."

Garry has not scored a stoppage since 2023, with his last six bouts going to the scorecards. A knockout of Makhachev would mark just the second defeat in the champion's career, the first coming in 2015. Makhachev has claimed titles in two divisions and enters Philadelphia aiming to defend the welterweight strap for the first time.
