Ian Machado Garry had words for Michael Morales backstage at UFC 330, hours after losing his welterweight title bid to Islam Makhachev.

The exchange was caught on video and circulated online. Garry approached Morales to dispute a claim the Ecuadorian contender reportedly made about a prior in-person encounter. "I don't know whatever story you made up about meeting me, I've never encountered that sort, you know that, right?" Garry said, according to footage posted by FULL SEND MMA and reported by MMA Fighting.

Garry opened the conversation by addressing Morales's recent comments. "All the sh*t you talk, it's OK," he said. "Make sure you back it up." He then shifted to praise, telling Morales he has the talent to compete for a title shot. "Listen, you're a good fighter. Show up, keep winning, and you can do anything," Garry said. "You've got massive fights in this division. You've got me, you've got Carlos Prates, you've got Islam. Show up and fight. Does that make sense? You're an animal. You're strong."

Before UFC 330, Garry said publicly that Morales needed another win against top-tier opposition before earning a title fight. Morales made weight to serve as an emergency replacement for the main event and is considered a potential next challenger for Makhachev's belt. Some observers have floated a Morales versus Prates eliminator to determine the next contender.

Makhachev told reporters after UFC 330 that he plans to defend the welterweight title again by January 2027 at the latest, citing his observance of Ramadan. If that timeline holds, both Morales and Prates will likely fight again before the champion returns.
