Garcia And Lopez Reportedly In Talks
A welterweight unification between Ryan Garcia and Teofimo Lopez is reportedly in advanced negotiations.
Lopez holds the WBA title after beating Rolando Romero by majority decision on August 22. Garcia kept the WBC belt by stopping Conor Benn in round two on September 12. Lopez has previously floated February or Cinco de Mayo weekend for the fight.
The WBA has ordered Lopez to defend against mandatory challenger Jack Catterall, with both camps given until October 22 to agree terms. Lopez has indicated he will challenge the order.
The Garcia fight reportedly doesn’t depend on Lopez keeping the WBA belt, so talks could continue even if he is stripped for skipping Catterall.
