Gaethje Makes McGregor A Fight Offer, The Notorious Slams Poirier And More
Justin Gaethje has responded to Conor McGregor after the latter vowed to knock him out.
The two MMA fighters butted heads on social media following Gaethje’s win over Dustin Poirier. During the course of their UFC 291 bout, Gaethje landed a vicious leg kick near the face to send Poirier crashing to the ground.
As the referee stopped the fight, Gaethje was declared the ‘BMF’ champion. However, McGregor was not impressed by Gaethje’s performance as he suggested that he would ‘slap’ the champion around the cage.
In addition, McGregor promised to stop Gaethje with a ‘one shot’ knockout.
"The guy is about as smart as two planks. He is a one shotter for me. I snipe him dead in one single shot. And easily," McGregor revealed
Gaethje dismissed those suggestions by referring to how McGregor had reportedly turned down previous attempts to get the fight made, as well as alleging that the ‘Notorious’ was on steroids.
The latter allegation comes amid McGregor’s failure to enroll in USADA.
"I’m not going to fight someone on steroids. I’ve never taken steroids in my life, never will – well, maybe when I retire, I might. But I’ve never taken steroids, and I don’t want to fight someone that’s cheating. And I probably shouldn’t even say that if I want the fight, but it’s the truth," Gaethje said
But now Gaethje has put McGregor on notice by asking him to back up his words with an offer to sign a fight deal.

And one man who has backed such a fight has been none other than Nate Diaz. In the aftermath of his win over Poirier, Gaethje expressed his desire to face the winner of Islam Makhachev vs. Charles Oliveira.
But given that McGregor did call him out, Diaz was on board for it to happen. After all, Diaz is well aware of what it is like to face McGregor.
The duo faced each other on two occasions at UFC 196 and UFC 202. Diaz triumphed in the first bout at 196, as he choked McGregor in the second round.
Meanwhile, at UFC 202, McGregor bounced back with a unanimous-decision win to take their rivalry to 1-1. As such, this is what Diaz had to say.
"Conor and Chandler, they’re not gonna fight. Let Conor fight Gaethje. Yeah, I don’t think they’re going to fight.
"There’s no bout agreement, they just like the BMF belt, they had nothing to entertain nobody. They just had to put Conor on TV. I think Conor and Gaethje should fight, I think that would be nice.”
"But, Gaethje might try to act like he’s too cool or something. But, it shows how much of a nerd he is. He don’t have anybody to fight, who’s he going to fight? Who’s Gaethje going to fight? There’s nobody to fight," Diaz
At the same time, McGregor has dismissed Poirier’s fight resume by suggesting that he is not a hall-of-famer. The comments arrived in the aftermath of Poirier’s loss to Gaethje at UFC 291.
Although Gaethje claimed the ‘BMF’ belt, Poirier was adamant that he was a hall-of-famer already. In response, McGregor hit back by downplaying Poirier’s win over him, as well as highlighting his failure to win a UFC title.
"Never won an undisputed title. 0-3 in title fights. I disagree on hall of fame. All due respect he has one solid win over me, where he was getting pucked around the cage before he got it, and then the second off a leg break. He’s done f**k all Ariel. Not hall of fame, no way," McGregor
Nevertheless, it is important to bear in mind the following points. Poirier has managed to achieve wins over some huge names, such as McGregor, Gaethje and Eddie Alvarez to name a few.
Meanwhile, McGregor has not returned to the octagon since his loss to Poirier in 2021. Therefore, there could be a suggestion that McGregor has not recovered mentally since that loss.
And if McGregor does not return to the octagon, then his credibility will only diminish in the eyes of the public and fellow MMA stars.
Matt Brown chimed in to back Gaethje by questioning if McGregor had the hunger to re-enter the fight game. His following comments confirmed as much.
"Conor likes being in the spotlight. He likes his name being put out there. We’re talking about it right now. That’s what Conor does. He gets out in the spotlight and that’s why there’s been a lot of people talking negative things about him lately.
"Because that’s what he’s doing. He’s talking his stuff, doing the Dillon Danis style. It’s not going to happen. Like get in there and fight, bro. This sport you can only talk so much and you’ve got to back it up," Brown
