Fury Vs. Usyk Is Signed – Reaction

In today’s boxing news latest headlines, Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk have signed a deal to fight for the undisputed heavyweight championship title in Saudi Arabia.

The news has finally given the boxing fanbase what they had wanted after worries that the fight may not have happened. Previous talks over staging a fight at Wembley in April failed to materialise.

Despite Usyk agreeing to take a 70-30 split, which was not in his favour, the fight could not be agreed. Disagreements over the rematch clause merged. Usyk favoured a 70-30 split for the winner, while Fury demanded 50-50.

Thereafter, the Gypsy King ruled out facing Usyk since he wanted the highest-paid fights. This may have explained his decision to fight Francis Ngannou instead, which will earn the fighter a reported $50 million.

But now that an agreement has been signed, fans will get to see the first undisputed champion since Lennox Lewis defeated Evander Holyfield all the way back in 1999. With that being said, there was a lot of anticipation for the fight.

Reaction

"Delighted to finally get this fight signed. This is the biggest fight that could possibly be made in our sport. The heavyweights always spark the imagination of the fans, and I have no doubt this will be the biggest boxing event of the century. I look forward to Tyson reclaiming the three belts that he never lost in the ring," Fury

I look forward to Tyson reclaiming the three belts that he never lost in the ring. Huge thanks to His Excellency and the GEA," Frank Warren

"I can’t believe that it’s happening but it is. Difficult to express my admiration for being part of the biggest heavyweight fight of the century. Gratitude to the KSA and his excellency Turki Al-Sheikh for making it happen, respect to Tyson for his courage and thank the Lord for all he gives us," Alex Krassyk

"I’m delighted Tyson has the chance to become the first Undisputed World Heavyweight Champion of the four-belt era and prove he is one of the greats of all time. First, though, Tyson will have the chance to prove he is The Baddest Man on The Planet on October 28th. Thank you to His Excellency and the GEA, what a Riyadh Season this is going to be," Spencer Brown (Fury’s manager)

Issues

Despite the fight getting singed, there are still a few issues that need addressing. The date for the fight has yet to be announced, although December 23rd, 2023, is being targeted. If that does not go ahead, then a fight in January 2024 is being targeted.

Regardless of what does end up transpiring, fans got what they had wanted. And there is no getting away from that. Find all the latest boxing news and MMA breaking updates on boxingblitz.
