Jaron Ennis declares himself the face of boxing
Jaron Ennis believes he has earned the right to call himself the face of boxing.
The unified WBA and WBO welterweight champion told The Ring's Inside The Ring show on Monday that he stands above the sport's current crop of stars. "I'm the face of boxing, and they will see," Ennis said, per The Ring. "Every fight, I am going to give you something different. These guys can't do what I do."
Ennis reflects on Zayas win despite rough third round
The 29-year-old Philadelphia native moved to 36-0 with 32 knockouts after stopping Xander Zayas in seven rounds last month to claim both titles at 154 pounds. Ennis dropped Zayas three times but absorbed his heaviest punishment in the third round, where he was roughed up more than at any point in his career. He watched the fight multiple times and gave himself a grade of C or C-plus. "I got touched. But everybody thought I was hurt. I wasn't hurt, even though it looked crazy," Ennis said. He blamed the scare on complacency, explaining that when things get too easy in high-level fights, a fighter either needs to finish or risks getting caught.
Ennis compared his versatility to a variety pack of chips, saying he can shift styles at will and never delivers a boring performance. He ranks ninth on The Ring's pound-for-pound list and first at 154 pounds, though he acknowledged that established names like Canelo Alvarez, Gervonta Davis, and David Benavidez still dominate mainstream attention.
The champion warned that fans have not seen his best work yet. Inside The Ring airs live Mondays on DAZN at 2 p.m. ET.
