Fury May Retire Very Soon – ‘Maybe A Year'

Tyson Fury, the WBC heavyweight champion, has hinted that he may not have long left in the sport.

The ‘Gypsy King’ is a 34-year-old having already become a world champion with major victories in his career.

Two wins over Deontay Wilder and a boxing masterclass against Wladimir Klitschko has put Fury near the top of the heavyweight division.

Although that may have been the case, there is a feeling that without fights against Anthony Joshua and Oleksandr Usyk, Tyson’s legacy would be incomplete.

However, talks with both Joshua and Usyk broke down. A 60-40 offer for Joshua failed to result in a fight due to reported unrealistic deadlines and Joshua’s decision to rebuild with Derrick James.

Meanwhile, a 70-30 split in favor of Tyson was not enough to secure a bout with Usyk.

But given that the heavyweight champion is now fighting Francis Ngannou, the former UFC heavyweight champion who has never boxed, Fury’s time in the sport could soon be over.

Fury’s Comments

"Who knows how long I’ve got left. Maybe not long….. maybe a year, maybe two years, maybe one fight, who knows. One thing I do know is I’m going to enjoy every minute that I have left, every fight that I have left I’m taking it all in and enjoying it.

"I want my kids there, my little boys walk me out and stuff and I’m very happy with where I am in my life and that I’m in a position where I can give them this excitement.

"I think every fighter knows when it’s time to walk away. They always leave it too long anyway, but I’m sure I’ll make the right decision. Like you say, I’ve got a lot to do in my life. I got a lot of kids and I need to be in the right mind. I don’t need to be getting injured or whatever," Fury

Those comments raised a lot of talking points on social media. Many believed that Fury may never fight Usyk before he hangs up his gloves.

That would be a huge disappointment, as fans would be deprived of an undisputed champion.
