Froch Blasts Joshua’s Mindset – ‘Joshua Is Frightened Of His Own Shadow'

Carl Froch has once again called out Anthony Joshua’s mindset in light of his potential rematch with Dillian Whyte

Joshua is expected to fight on August 12th, 2023, at the O2, London. As of now, talks are ongoing with Whyte in an attempt to get a deal done.

The talks faced some obstacles over money and more recently a rematch clause. Whyte protested the rematch clause on the basis that it was not a title fight.

Joshua’s camp would have included such a thing as a standard practice to protect their fighter’s commercial value in case of a loss.

But given that Joshua has now dropped the rematch clause, a fight could get made. While that may be the case, it was not the fight that fans were hoping for.

Bouts with Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury remain at the top of everyone’s lips. And that has left Froch frustrated with Joshua’s choice of opponents.

"The heavyweight division is so frustrating at the minute. You’ve got Tyson Fury talking a lot of nonsense and giving it a big one. I mean, he’s allowed to, he’s one of the best in the world. And Anthony Joshua is frightened of his own shadow," Froch

It is true to say that Joshua has become gun-shy since his loss to Andy Ruiz Jr. On his American debut, Joshua was stopped much to the shock of everyone.

And since that moment, the Brit has chosen to box and move, rather than the explosive combinations that he was known for.

"Since he lost to [Andy] Ruiz, I don’t think he’s been the same. He had back-to-back defeats to Oleksandr Usyk and then he came back with that win against Jermaine Franklin which was just a formality for him.

"[He] just jabbed and moved, and got the win. But I want to see Anthony Joshua more aggressive, like he used to be, when he was a bit more tenacious," Froch

Joshua’s new trainer Derrick James will have a tough job on his hands to get the former unified heavyweight champion back to his best. But if he can, then Joshua is a match for the best of them.
