First robot MMA fight in China ends by decapitation

Tom Rashid
UFC & MMA Lead Writer ·

China hosted its first robot mixed martial arts fight, which ended when one machine decapitated its opponent during the match.

Video of the bout circulated online this week after MMA Mania posted footage of the bizarre spectacle. The clip shows two humanoid robots grappling before one lands what appeared to be a decisive strike that detached the head of its opponent.

Robot combat expands beyond boxing into MMA

The fight marks an expansion of robot combat sports beyond boxing exhibitions into cage fighting. Previous robot boxing events featured knockouts, but the decapitation finish represents a new extreme in mechanical combat.

Details about the event's organizers, weight classes, or future bouts remain unclear. The video provided no information about whether the robots operated autonomously or under remote control.

No timeline has been announced for additional robot MMA cards in China or elsewhere.
