Ferguson Faces Replacement Four Days Before Misfits Title Fight

Tony Ferguson will defend his Misfits Boxing middleweight title against a replacement opponent this Saturday, just four days after the original matchup fell apart.

Misfits Boxing announced Tuesday that Ferguson will now face former Olympic wrestler Mahmoud Sebie at the James L. Knight Center in Miami, per MMA Fighting. Ferguson was scheduled to fight Kenzo Biyong, but Biyong pulled out due to what the promotion described as "travel complications."

Ferguson's Misfits Boxing Run

The longtime UFC lightweight became Misfits Boxing's middleweight champion earlier this year with an interim title win over Salt Papi, then unified the belt by stopping Warren Spencer. Ferguson lost his most recent combat sports appearance via tech fall to Arman Tsarukyan at RAF 10 in June.

Sebie competed for Egypt as a Greco-Roman wrestler at the 2016 Olympics before attempting a switch to Team USA. He retired from wrestling after the pandemic postponed the 2020 games and has since competed in mixed rules contests, losing to Zahid Valencia via tech fall at RAF 6.

The event goes off Saturday with former two-division UFC champion Henry Cejudo making his pro boxing debut against actor and Most Valuable Promotions prospect Wanna Walton in the main event.
