Fans Rip Haney Over Norman Jr. Altercation – ‘He Was About To Cry'
Fans have reacted to Devin Haney’s altercation with Brian Norman Jr., which resulted in the pair being separated.
The two are on course to face each other in November. Haney is aiming to become a three-weight world champion, having picked up belts at 135 and 140 pounds. He is the former Undisputed Lightweight Champion, as well as the former WBC Junior Welterweight Champion. However, Haney’s brand has been damaged despite remaining undefeated.
His no-contest against Ryan Garcia harmed his brand, as he was dropped three times. Haney was also accused of being ‘soft’ for suing Ryan Garcia for battery after the latter failed VADA tests for Ostarine. While Haney came back with a win against Jose Ramirez in his last fight, the performance received criticism after Haney was reluctant to engage.
Meanwhile, Norman Jr. defended his WBO Welterweight Title with a brutal fifth-round knockout against Jin Sasaki. The performance was all the more impressive since he secured the win in Sasaki’s backyard in Japan. Norman Jr. had been accused of ducking Jaron Ennis, despite his camp claiming the contrary. However, with Ennis moving up to 154, Haney is the next biggest name.
Altercation
The pair came across each other as they sized each other up. As they did so, Haney pushed Norman Jr.’s hand away after the champion was pointing at him. That is when Haney’s reported bodyguard took a hold of Norman’s shirt and pulled it, as they wrestled to the floor. Bill Haney was present, as he helped to break things up.
Haney similarly pushed Vasiliy Lomachenko during their weight-in, only to be on the back foot for a lot of the fight, with many feeling Loma was robbed. Haney also talked up a big game against Ryan Garcia, only to get dropped several times. The same happened against Jose Ramirez, with Haney boxing on the back foot. Fans have now made their feelings clear on Haney.
