Paul takes on arguably the biggest test of his career since the Tommy Fury fight. Paul lost the Fury fight but bounced back with five wins on the spin. His last bout was a unanimous decision win against Mike Tyson. While Tyson was no longer the same fighter, who was returning at 56, Paul pocketed a reported $40 million. Paul was trying to target Canelo Alvarez before talks broke down, but a win could reignite interest in that fight.

Chavez Jr. enters the fight with a victory against ex-UFC fighter Uriah Hall via a unanimous decision. Chavez boxed on the Jake Paul vs. Mike Perry undercard, giving the Problem Child a glimpse of what the Mexican is capable of. The winner will target a world title shot, with names such as the WBC Cruiserweight Champion Badou Jack and the WBA and WBO Cruiserweight Champion Zurdo Ramirez in the conversation. "I would say Chavez is most likely going to be the toughest opponent (I have faced yet), the most experienced, literally the most amount of fights out of all of my opponents. He’s a former world champion which I haven’t faced a former boxing world champion other than Mike Tyson but obviously Mike was older, Chavez is still in his 30’s so I think this is gonna be the toughest one," Paul said

"I liked the idea [of fighting Paul] because I think the fight [has come at the right time]. I [thought] about [taking the fight because] Jake is very popular, [and] I’m pretty sure that I’ll win this fight. I want to [make it] clear that I’m still here. I’m not old, and I take this sport seriously. [I] train hard [and I’m] disciplined," Chavez stated
