Evloev Targets First UFC Finish Against Volkanovski

Movsar Evloev wants his first UFC stoppage to come in the biggest fight of his career.

The unbeaten Russian featherweight told MMA Fighting that he plans to finish Alexander Volkanovski when they meet for the 145-pound title at UFC 333 on Oct. 24 at Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi. Evloev, who has never recorded a finish inside the octagon despite an unblemished record, said the title shot offers the perfect stage for a breakthrough performance.

Evloev Wants To Silence Critics With Stoppage Win

"This is my first title fight," Evloev said, per MMA Fighting. "And we're looking to make it my first finish in the UFC." The 30-year-old contender added that he wants Volkanovski at his absolute best to avoid the criticism he received when stopping champions on the regional circuit before his UFC run. Detractors would dismiss those wins by saying his opponents were past their prime or poorly prepared.

"I used to beat champions before joining the UFC," Evloev explained. "And when I beat them, people used to say, 'OK, they weren't that good like before.' I don't want to hear this [old excuse] again, so I want him to be in his prime, in the best condition, so I can show my skills."

Volkanovski, 38, has held the featherweight title twice and enters the bout looking to reclaim the belt. The fight marks Evloev's first UFC title challenge after a run of decision wins that established him as a top contender in the division.
