Eubank Jr. Vs. GGG – Will It Happen?

Chris Eubank Jr. has expressed an interest in facing Gennady Golovkin, as we explore how such a fight could play out.

Eubank’s comments arrive ahead of his upcoming fight with Conor Benn in November. Eubank beat Benn in their first fight, as he looks to move on to bigger things if he secures another win. Eubank and GGG were close to boxing in 2016, but talks broke down. GGG would later retire, although reports indicate the 43-year-old is willing to return for one more fight. GGG would be the biggest name on Eubank’s resume and given the Kazakh is 43, Eubank would fancy his chances. The Brit is open to that fight happening.

"Why not? He’s a legend of the sport. If the fans wanted to see a fight like that, I don’t know if they do, but if they did, absolutely," Eubank said

The Approach

For Eubank Jr., the path to victory lies in using his youth, speed, and relentless pace to overwhelm the older Golovkin. Eubank Jr. is an active fighter who has a high-volume style, and he would likely look to start the fight fast, throwing combinations to the body and head to test GGG’s chin and stamina. His best weapon is his jab, which he would use to keep GGG at a distance and frustrate the former champion.

Meanwhile, Golovkin would need to rely on his power and ring generalship to win the fight. At 43, his speed and stamina would likely be diminished, so he would need to be patient and look for a single, fight-ending shot. GGG would use his powerful jab and his ability to cut off the ring to trap Eubank Jr. on the ropes and then unleash his famous left hook. He would have to be very efficient with his punches and conserve his energy for the later rounds, as it is an intriguing match-up.
