Abus Magomedov chokes Michal Oleksiejczuk out, calls out Adesanya
Abus Magomedov put Michal Oleksiejczuk to sleep with a guillotine choke at UFC Baku and immediately turned his sights on Israel Adesanya.
The Russian-German middleweight stunned Oleksiejczuk with a cutting elbow before locking in the submission that left his opponent unconscious 3:25 into the opening round, as MMA Fighting and MMA Mania both reported. Magomedov had entered the card as a slight favorite after dropping his previous bout to Joe Pyfer via submission last October.
Magomedov targets Adesanya after brutal finish
Magomedov used his post-fight microphone time to lobby for a marquee matchup. "I want to fight against Israel Adesanya," he said, per MMA Fighting. "Now we are almost on same level and I hope I'm going to get the fight after this performance."
The callout comes as Adesanya endures the roughest stretch of his career. The two-time UFC middleweight champion is reportedly on a four-fight skid dating to 2023, while Magomedov has now won four of his past five.
Magomedov controlled the fight from the opening exchanges at National Gymnastics Arena, landing whipping kicks from range before closing distance. Oleksiejczuk, known for his durability since moving to 185 pounds, tried to pressure forward but walked into the elbow that changed the fight. Magomedov swarmed with punches, dragged Oleksiejczuk to the canvas, and secured the finish.
The win improves Magomedov to 29-7-1 and positions him for a ranked opponent next. No timeline has been announced for a potential Adesanya booking.
