Eubank Jr. Recalls His Father Beating Him During His Childhood

Chris Eubank Jr. has revealed that he had been beaten by his father, Chris Eubank Sr, during his childhood.

The boxer is preparing for arguably the biggest fight of his career. The star will face Liam Smith on September 2nd, 2023.

Jr. will be hoping to avenge his loss after suffering a fourth-round TKO in their first bout. A defeat, however, will increase the calls on him to retire.

But given that Jr. expanded on his tough upbringing, the fighter is known for not quitting so easily.

He admitted that this father had a very strict approach to life. As such, this held him accountable and ultimately it has had a bearing on his approach to boxing.

Eubank Jr. On His Father

"Some people will hear, ‘he got beat with a belt or a cane and that’s 100 per cent abuse.’ But in my opinion, abuse is unwarranted…Abuse is somebody doing something for no reason

"He was teaching me for everything you do there are consequences, good and bad. When I did good things he rewarded me immensely, and when I did bad things, he punished me," Eubank

Ultimately, Eubank will need that discipline if he is to overcome Smith in the rematch. He had been accused of not preparing well enough for the first fight, as in the run up to the bout, Jr. joked about only needing to be at 60 percent in order to beat Smith.

Although Eubank may not be on good terms with his father after the latter refered to him as a charlatan, Eubank was grateful for the lesson that his father had instilled in him. The following comments confirmed as much.

Eubank Jr. On The Lessons

"I look at it as, imagine if there were no consequences for what I did. Imagine if I had a parent who said, ‘Come on son, take a time out. I was already a wild man. I would have been off the rails," Eubank

Although the relations between the Eubanks is at a poor level, if Eubank Jr. can come out with a win, then the chances of there being an olive branch between the two will be greater.
