Six England Boxers Reach Commonwealth Finals

England boxers claimed six spots in Saturday's finals at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow after a dominant showing in Friday's semi-final sessions.

Chantelle Reid and Isaac Okoh both won unanimous 5-0 decisions in the afternoon session, according to a BBC Sport report. Sacha Hickey, Patris Mughalzai, and Dimeji Shittu advanced earlier in the day with similar convincing victories. Damar Thomas also reached the super-heavyweight final after Northern Ireland's Willie John McCartan withdrew with an elbow injury.

Reid Eyes Los Angeles After Return From Injury

Reid's victory over Australia's world number two Lekeisha Pergoliti in the women's 70kg division marked another milestone for the 28-year-old, who only recently returned after six years away from the ring with a degenerative back condition. "I'm just going to try to keep getting these wins in," the world bronze medallist told TNT Sports, per the BBC. "It's all good preparation for the Olympic Games in Los Angeles in 2028."

Okoh quietened the home crowd at the Scottish Event Campus with a controlled performance against Scotland's Robert McNulty in the heavyweight division. The 22-year-old from Grays won all three rounds before raising both gloves to his ears as the unanimous decision was announced. He said McNulty's supporters had been telling him all week he would get knocked out.

Lauren Mackie was the lone English casualty, losing 4-1 to Canada's Scarlett Delgado in the women's 54kg semi-final. Three more England fighters were scheduled for evening bouts on Friday. Hickey will face Northern Ireland's Kaci Rock for gold in the women's 65kg final, while Mughalzai meets Australia's Jacob Cassar at men's 65kg and Shittu takes on India's Ankush Ankush at men's 75kg. Finals are set for Saturday.
