Ellerbe On Davis' Biggest Fights, Tank Won't Return Until 2024

In some recent boxing news, Leonard Ellerbe does not see a Gervonta Davis bout against Shakur Stevenson, Devin Haney or Frank Martin currently being a big fight.

Those comments arrived following Calvin Ford’s recent statement that something ‘big’ was on the horizon for Tank Davis. The boxer has not fought since his seventh-round stoppage of Ryan Garcia. The fight, though, had the highest gate of 2023.

Thereafter, Davis was under house arrest for a hit-and-run incident. But given that he broke the terms of the house arrest, the boxer served the remainder of his term in jail.

And now that he has been released, the attention has turned towards his next fight. But those big names mentioned previously have been ruled out for now.

Ellerbe On Davis

"All of them can fight, but I’m just saying that Tank’s going to show you guys that he’s better than everybody. He’s going to show you guys. He ain’t going to talk about it. He’s going to show you guys that he’s better than all these guys and again and again.

"I’m just saying that this building to becoming a superstar is a process; it’s a process, man. I’m telling you, it’s a process you don’t all of a sudden just go. Tank is selling out everywhere, and you guys are saying that he ain’t did this," Ellerbe stated

Ellerbe’s Expectation

Despite this being the case, Ellerbe did reassure fans that the fights would happen later down the line. However, there is an argument that waiting until either of the fighters start to show signs of decline is no the way to go.

And yet, Floyd Mayweather had shown that by waiting it was possible to get the highest payday against fighters who are no longer at their peak. The fight with Manny Pacquiao had shown that. Nevertheless, those fights are being targeted for the future.

"People want to see, and it’s like they going to come. These fights [Shakur, Frank Martin & Haney], I think they will happen in time and I’m not going to put a timeframe, this is just my opinion," Ellerbe

Davis’ Future

In addition, Gervonta Davis will not fight this year. Instead, a 2024 return is being planned following his release from prison.

Davis completed his sentence after violating the terms of his house arrest in relation to a hit-and-run following his biggest win over Ryan Garcia.

But rather than rush back into a fight, the boxer is understandably taking some time off in order to decide his next move. That is both from a boxing and personal point of view. When Davis does return, there are plenty of fights out there.

A rematch with Isaac Cruz could take place since Davis’ coach, Calvin Ford, has been vocal about wanting to run things back.

Meanwhile, a fight against the undefeated Frank Martin could also be on offer. And since both of those fighters are with PBC, there would not be too many obstacles in the way to make it happen. Either way, Davis’ next steps are clear.

"I’m getting my personal life together. I’ll see y’all top of the year," Davis
