Dustin Poirier says UFC reached out immediately after arrest

Dustin Poirier says the UFC contacted him within 24 hours of his June arrest on a public drunkenness charge to offer whatever support he needed.

The former interim lightweight champion was removed from a flight and arrested at an Atlanta airport after an altercation with police. Poirier, who has since apologized and announced he is 28 days sober, told Yahoo that Hunter Campbell reached out the day after the incident.

Campbell pledges UFC support for Poirier

"Hunter Campbell with the UFC reached out to me and asked me what he can do," Poirier said, per the Yahoo report. "The UFC's got my back. Anything they can do, anything I need help with, let them know and they're all in."

Poirier said Campbell, the promotion's chief business officer, told him the company would not let someone who fought for them over 15 years handle the situation alone. The charge is still pending.

Dana White told MMA Fighting recently that the UFC operates a wellness program similar to WWE's to help fighters during and after their careers, though the promotion does not publicize it. Poirier did not disclose whether he accepted the offer of assistance.
